For the past week or two I have been working on my first essay for this class. The first essay is a argumentative essay on crime and punishment. I decided to write my essay on lowering the drinking age from 21 to 18. Through out my essay I am discussing reasons why I think the drinking age should be lowered. Also I am talking about how a lot of people are on my side about lowering the drinking age, but also a lot of people are against lowering the drinking age.  I struggled a little bit when I was trying to begin my essay, but after I got started on it I was on a roll from there. I actually am really enjoying writing this essay because I feel very passionate about what I am writing about and I am also enjoying researching different information on this topic. I have already wrote almost 1,000 words and it is suppose to be around 1,500+. I really don't have much more I have to finish writing. I need to finish one paragraph and then do my conclusion paragraph. After that I just need to clean it up a bit and check over it and make corrections. I hope that the other essays we do in this class will be just as good as this essay has been for me.

Today one of the groups in our class did a presentation on apostrophes. They showed a PowerPoint to the class and along with it they had sentences where the class had to find the missing apostrophes. I think that they did a very good job with their presentation. Apostrophes serve two basic functions. One they show possession, and they indicate that letters have been removed from the original words. For example Don't, You're right, Ms. Jone's house, etc. It is very important to use correct punctuation. These group assignment's I think it a great way to help us understand and know how to do these things. You should not use an apostrophe in the possessive pronouns such as Whose, ours, yours, his, hers, its, theirs. In all I think this group did a great job on their assignment.

Distractions

·         People making noises

·         People talking

What would I like to write about now?

·         I would write about Summer time because I am so ready for warm weather and to go to the beach, lake, pool etc. The Summer time is my favorite time of the year.

·         I would also like to write about what I am going to do this weekend.

Anything else you would like to write about that you left out?

·         What I plan on doing for Spring Break

Which topic draws your attention right now?

·         Summertime

What can I say about this topic right now?

I am so ready for Summer Time to get here. Summer is my favorite time of the year and I love everything about it. A enjoy the cold weather for a little while, but after Christmas and New Year’s is over I’m ready for it to start getting warm. There are so many things you can do in the Summer Time that you can’t do in the winter. Such as go to the beach, pool, lake, do outside activities, etc. I absolutely love going to the lake with my friends and going out on the boat with everyone. We will go tubing and wakeboarding and just relax and have a great time together. Also one of my favorite places to go is Nags Head which is in North Carolina. My family and I have been going there our whole lives.

Important meaning of my topic

·         Everyone loves the summertime

·         It’s warm outside

·         Relaxing

·         Fun

·         Beach

·         Tanning

The importance

·         This topic is not super important, but I think it is pretty important to myself and is in my heart and mind. I think this because the summer time is my favorite time of the year and I could go on and on about things I plan on doing this summer and events that have happened to me in the past during the summer time. I enjoy everything about this time of the year. I absolutely love everything about it.

Why might this topic be difficult for you?

·         This topic may be difficult for me in some ways because I might end up talking about some of the same types of things over and over again.

Essay Topics

So for the past few days we have been discussing topics for our three essays we will be doing this semester. Everyone in the class had to agree on the topic. So if one person didn't want that topic we couldn't use that topic or we had to try and convince them on why they should want to write about that topic. It is very hard for everyone in the class to be able to agree on something because everyone likes and dislikes different things and have different opinions on certain situations. I wasn't too worried about which topics we chose. I just definitely did not want to talk about environment or school. I honestly didn't think we as a class were ever going to decide on three topics until today when we found out if we came up with the two topics as a group that our third topic would be our own choice. So we finally chose crime and punishment as one topic and family as the other topic. For our third topic everyone can decide on another one themselves. So then everyone will be happy and it will be fair because everyone will be able to do a topic that they were passionate about and be able to write about something they enjoy writing about and is interesting. I am very happy about the choices we finally came up with and I am so glad we are done discussing it! Hopefully these three essays will be interesting to do and will be fun to do and by researching about these topics you will learn a lot on theses topics too.
